Diabetic Eye Disease

Diabetic eye disease is characterized by leakage of blood or proteins in the retina that can be mild such as background diabetic retinopathy to the more severe proliferative type which causes macular edema. Macular edema is swelling in the central vision which can lead to blindness. Diabetic eye disease is treatable with injections and or laser treatments. Detection is the key to preventing diabetic eye disease; it is extremely important for yearly exams if you are diabetic.
